Manifest issue: Including ActiveX without Admin-rights

Postby Uwe van der Horst » Fri Dec 11, 2009 12:27 am

Hi all,

we want to change the embedded manifest resource of our application compiled with TeamDeveloper 5.2 to use the Microsoft Runtime (MFC80U.dll, etc)
without installing it in WinSXS. With other words: We want to bring thousands of clients from TD 2000 to TD 5.2 without reinstalling all clients with Windows Admin-rights. Our app has included some ActiveX-Controls and we want avoid to register them. Therefore we tried to modify the manifest with mt.exe. Result: The exe file shrinks from 365kb to 12kb. On application start, a message box appears showing the text 'This file cannot be run'. We tried to modify the manifest both with a resource editor and Visual Studio 2005 - the results were the same.

A solution for this would be highly appreciated.

@Unify: Do you have a tool which allows to modify the manifest? If not, is it possible to add an option to TD to include an individual manifest file instead of
the standard one?

Nice weekend,

Uwe

Hi Uwe,

I'm sorry, but we don't have any tool to modify the manifest. I've also been informed that there are no plans to allow the use of a manifest file other than the standard one.

Best regards,

Mike
