nxjide.exe terminates immediately

Discussion regarding installation problems for all products.

nxjide.exe terminates immediately

Postby zman » Tue May 29, 2007 7:05 pm

I downloaded NXJ test drive. It installed apparently successfully. Attempts to start NXJ Developer result in

nxjide.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. blah blah blah

Running XP Pro.

Looking for ideas where to start tgroubleshooting.

Have you installed the newest version of the java runtime?

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I have Netbeans loaded, but it's not the newest. I'll get the latest Java 5 EE SDK and try again.

Well, that's probably not the problem. NXJ includes it's own version of the JDK, so that we can ensure that there are no compatibility problems.

What is the exact error message that you're receiving? Is there anything in the logs?

Try starting nxjide.exe with the command line option:

nxjide.exe -Debug=true

and let me know what the error panel says.

Eek,same results

Goes immediately to

"nxjide.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Digging deeper, I find:

Error Signature:
AppName: nxjide.exe AppVer: ModName: msvcrt.dll
ModVer: 7.0.2600.2180 Offset: 00037bec

I'd cut and paste the
"Error Report Contents," but Windows doesn't seem to let me.

Is there a debug log I can look at somewhere ?

Oh, and I did have an earlier copy of NXJ on the system, would that matter ?

I don't think you're getting to the point where logfile entries are written, based on your initial description of the problem.

Try uninstalling completely, removing the NXJ directory, and reinstalling. I never have a problem upgrading releases, but I also rarely do so... most of the time, I install cleanly.

Still no go

Oddly, I tried installing on my HP desktop (which is really not suitable from a portability point of view), and it installed cleanly and ran.

When I try to install on my Dell laptop, no go.

I did notice that on the HP, it asked me to reboot. On the Dell it did not. I wonder what's up with that ?

Tried another uninstall / reinstall on the Dell.
Still errors. Event view sez:

Faulting application nxjide.exe, version, faulting module msvcrt.dll, version 7.0.2600.2180, fault address 0x00037bec.

Any ideas where to go next ?

I tried another install. During the install, I dumped C:\installlog.txt:

You have installed server security framework.

If you want to change the administrator name and password, see the user document

Name=Unify NXJ
Control Center URL remove=failed

After the install "completed", C:\temp\installlog.txt was removed (or renamed and moved ?)

Should I be concerned about
"Control Center URL remove=failed

nxjide.exe terminates as before.
nxjide.exe -Debug=true terminates as before.
nxjbpmide.exe dumps the same way
nxjbmpcli.exe dumps the same way

nxjide.exe -debug=maximum terminates as before. I discovered this one empirically.

Any idea where to go next ? At this rate, I'll need a new evaluation key, since the old one will expire July 5th, and it's not looking promising that I'll be running be then.

I'm thinking that you may have a hardware problem on your machine. Could you run memtest, and also do a check of your hard drive?

Also, what path are you installing to?
