Igor, I've always lived by the philosophy "it's going to get ugly before it gets better."

I've been and continue to be a happy SQLWindows / Team Developer code-cruncher since 1993, despite it all:
  • product name change
  • 16-bit to 32-bit
  • company name change (Gupta to Centura)
  • product owned by various corporations
  • etc.

I've been working on the same single system since '95, and it has always been a stable critter. Migrating from SQLWindows 5 to TD 2.0 to TD2.1 to TD5.2SP3 have all been easy and successful experiences, and twenty year-old code lives seamlessly with all the new code I'm churning out. (I really think I can run circles around any team of folk using any other toolset.)

My "Using Gupta SQLWindows 5" and "Gupta SQLWindows 5 Developer's Guide" are still useful references when I need them, and coding doesn't require a heck of a whole lot of thought. All of my thinking (and the energy) can be focused on analysis and design of solutions because the coding is so easy.

Change is inevitable, but as-is right now, everything is fine. I don't see reason to "worry" about anything until things aren't fine. We know we can move to an unofficial forum if and when we need to. So all is good.

Just my Friday afternoon zen thoughts. Everything will be fine. (Especially when I get home and have: 2 ounces of dark rum, 2 very large tablespoons of maple syrup, a couple of ice cubes, and top it all off with water.)

Cheers !

Charlie,

Well you are right for the most (if not everything).
I will not abandon Gupta products nor plan to do it.
Despite all the troubles I had in the past, I still think it's one of the best products on the market.

It was the only one that made it possible to develop a fully working client/server application in just two days and go in production.

I am currently starting two new projects involving TD7.x and TDM2.x so I am in no way wishing bad things to happen.
I am just ranting as usual when things don't go as expected :-)

And yes, after some cups of slivovitza (local plum brandy: Croatian: šljivovica, Serbian: šljivovica / шљивовица, Bulgarian: сливова, сливовица, Czech: slivovice, Finnish: slivovits, German: Sliwowitz, Slibowitz, Hungarian: sligovica, Italian: slivovitz, Macedonian: сливова, Polish: śliwowica, Romanian: şliboviţă, Russian: сливовица, Slovak: slivovica, Slovene: slivovka, Yiddish: שליוואָוויץ‎, Ukrainian: слив'янка), everything is looking fine again :-) :-) :-)

Cheers!

Although I've never had plum brandy, just the name of it sends me to a right zen and happy place.

Igor, it sniffs to me like you and others work on some really interesting stuff.

I hope OpenText gets this: the code churned out by folk working with old versions of SQLWindows / Team Developer, and without any GLS (or paid product/license support by any other name), is of ongoing value to any of us developers, regardless of product version and GLS status. Besides, it is a testament to the resilience and robustness of the product (a major selling point in my mind.)

And this is our product page on My Support: https://knowledge.opentext.com/knowledg ... n/62048528

All documentation, old knowledge base articles and white papers have been migrated to that site.

If you notice that a document or white paper is missing all you have to do is let us know and we'll make it available.

There's also a YouTube channel with lots of useful videos, including a Customer Support specific channel with two great TD Mobile videos available to the community:

https://www.youtube.com/user/guptatechnologies/featured

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... 5PLkIfrp3V

Gupta is here to stay with OpenText, my team is working hard to create new knowledge base articles on a daily basis - it's part of our goals with OpenText.

There will soon be an announcement about the new forums and what's required to register but if you're already on My Support, feel free to use it although we haven't made that official yet.

Once it's official this forum will become Read-only as previoulsy informed.

Thanks,
Ana
